Q: What is Globalhometown.com?
A: Globalhometown.com is a site where anyone around the world can post stories about the place they consider their hometown. You can post stories about more than one place, and you can post as many stories as you want about a place.
Q: Does it cost anything to be a member of this website?
A: No, membership is free.
Q: What do I have to do to become a member?
A: Set up a user account and submit at least one story about a place you consider your hometown. You can also set up your profile with a biography and photo. The photo you submit for your profile should be of yourself but can be of anything you want. We must accept your story before we activate your account.
Q: Why wouldn’t you accept my story/profile?
A: We are a literary site that wants to appeal to a variety of ages and philosophies as well as meet certain standards of writing, so we can’t accept any stories or photos that are over-the-top profane or obscene, or any other reason we feel it is not acceptable to publish as is. If we reject a story or photo we’ll send you an email telling you why and give you a chance to resubmit it. We may also ask you to make changes to your profile for these reasons.
Q: Are there any other criteria I have to meet for you to accept my story?
A: It should reveal something about your unique experience with the place, it should be no longer than 1,200 words, and it has to be written in the English language.
Q: Can I submit more than one story?
A: Yes. Setting up an account allows you to come back and submit as many stories as you want. Keep in mind that we must approve every story and photo you submit.
Q: Do I have to worry about grammar/spelling/using slang?
A: Not at all — write your story exactly as you want to, keeping in mind the guidelines above. Whether you write something crazy and spontaneous, happy or pissed off, something that happened ten minutes ago or something that happened ten years ago, it’s all good.
Q: Can I submit a poem or poems for my story?
A: Yes.
Q: What if I want to make an edit to a story after it is published?
A: You can email one of the editors at problem@globalhometown.com if you feel you need to change something in a story.
Q: What changes can I make to my account?
A: You can make changes to everything but your username.
Q: Is there anything I could do that would cause you to deactivate my account?
A: If you spam or harass any other user of this site or the editors or other staff of this site, we will deactivate your account immediately and you will not be allowed to post to this site again. There are other reasons that also might cause us to deactivate your account, so please be sure to read our Terms of Use for this website.
